WEIGHT WATCHERS REVIEW (2017) | Dissecting Diets Ep.2

Hey everybody and welcome back to another
video. This is Dissecting Diets episode 2.
Today we're going to be covering a
different diet. Last week we covered
slimming world. You can watch that
there's going to be a link around here
somewhere you can click but stay until the
end of this videos because we're going
to be covering Weight Watchers. Ok so
before I go into the pros and cons of
Weight Watchers I just wanted to go
through actually how it works and what
sort of diet is. Okay so what they'll say
is it's a lifestyle.
It is lifestyle changes that you need to
make on any sort of diet that you're
choosing but Weight Watchers basically steers
people towards fruits, vegetables, lean
proteins and ultimately what they want
you to do is reduce the amount of
calories that you're eating. Now you
won't be counting calories per say,
they've actually developed a system, a
point system very much like calories but
it's a little bit more complicated so
there's different foods that have
different numbers allocated to them the
same way that calories are allocated to
foods but their number depends on the
amount of saturated fat they have in
the amount of calories, the amount of
protein and the amount of sugar. So a
food that has lower calories higher
protein zero fat and zero amount of
sugar in will be really low on their
scale so the number allocated to that
food we really low, whereas compared to a
food that's high in calories high in
saturated fat high in sugar and low in
protein that food would be significantly
higher on on the rating list or on the
number allocated to that food. So Weight
Watchers people get a certain amount of
points they can use per day, very similar
to counting calories. So let's say
someone is eating 2,000 calories a day
that's your goal for the day whereas on
Weight Watchers you have a certain
amount points you can use so someone
might have about 32 points and a piece
of bread can be about 2 to 4 point
and the aim is to really increase the
amount of fruit vegetables you're eating
you know eat lean proteins and still be
able to eat foods you enjoy. The main
part about that is you can't eat it in
the quantities that you want so this is
a very big hook that these companies
like to use in terms of you know trying
to get you into that product they say
they can you can eat whatever you want
which is true you can you just can't eat
in the quantity quantities that you like
to. And that's really the gist of how
Weight Watchers works. So let's get
into the pros and cons. Okay so I'm going
to start with the negatives and these
are the things that I don't like about
Weight Watchers. As you can see there's
not many so that's obviously a good sign.
The main problem I find is the
smart point system. Now the smart point
system, to me anyway, obviously if you have a

below. Let me know if you obviously i've
never used Weight Watchers but from an
outside perspective this seems more
confusing to me than just counting
calories because you have to go and
figure out you have to put into calories
you have to put in the protein you have
to put in the sugar and you have to put
in the fat to work out a smart point for
foods that aren't on their on their list
of foods because they do have like a
list of screws on their website on their
app as well. That to me just makes it
more complicated. Obviously when people
step away from Weight Watchers they're
going to associate foods with 'oh that's
two points' rather than 'oh that 90
calories' you know I think the calorie
system works a lot better because you
know it just teaches people about food.
Alright so they also have an No Count
option. So this option there's a list of
foods that you can eat from and you're
allowed to eat and unlimited amount of
that food until yes full. If
you're a big eater it's not that hard to
over-consume calories.
I think that can be a problem but
apart from that they're the only
downside of Weight Watchers that I found.
Okay so moving onto what I actually
like about Weight Watchers. Like
slimming world nothing is off-limits I
think that's a big tag for a lot of
companies because no one wants to give
up food they enjoy but when you really
get into it
I'll show you actually put a link to
someone's like weight watcher plan below
they do that video series which I
thought was quite interesting seeing how little
he was eating and you can still drink
wine and that sort of thing but the
amount of food that he was eating was really really
low. Obviously they have the weekly
meetings as well, the same as slimming world.
which i think is a good idea for again
accountability a bit of knowledge
learning. Okay so another thing I really
like about it is actual food scanning
app. So you can log all your food on
there you can do that on the website as
well. Just scan the barcode on the food
and it will come up with all the
information you need which is quite good.
Similar to my fitness pal, I really like
my clients using My Fitness Pal it just
makes it a lot easier. So they also
encourage exercise.. they have a
exercise portion of the app which i
think is good as well. Like I said you will
have to weigh your food if you're
putting your food into the app, you will
have to weigh some of your food. So certain
things like bread, like a tortilla wrap
that sort of thing are quite easy just because
you click one portion. Okay so the focus
is also on fruit, vegetables and lean
protein which seems to be a common theme
between most diets and these days. Okay
so what my thoughts on Weight Watchers?
So Weight Watchers is probably one of the most
successful diets around. It's been around
for a long time which is probably why
it's so successful. It can work for you
but it might not work long term if you
don't learn about foods and learn about
calories and protein, fruit, vegetables
and how that all affects your body. Yeah
and that's it really. So if you enjoyed
